Congratulations Youth Girls 4x800 Relay ! - The fabulous team of Lou Dietz (who would go on to post a personal best time of 2:33 in the open 800 meters the following day), Rebecca Armstrong, Tatum Del Bosco, and Hannah Yoho posted an impressive qualifying time of 10:35 for Youth Nationals in the 4x800 Relay. What was more impressive was the fact that they competed against seven Youth boys relay teams. When the team realized that there were no other girls entered in the event, Coach Keisha and Coach Grant decided to have them compete with the boys! And compete....they did! After battling back and forth between 4th and 6th place, they ultimately took 6th place, which is an actual first place finish for them.
Youth Girls 4x400 'A' Relay - The dream team of Alexandra Hicks, Ebony Crear, Rebecca Armstrong, and Noelle Niederhaus shave another 5 seconds off of their seasonal best time, lowering the club record to 4:10! While Ebony was in question (to compete) with a Sinus infection and taking antibiotics, her teammate and friend, Rebecca, experienced a slight strain in her right quad muscle the previous day. They encouraged each other and decided to give it their best, which together with an exceptional opening relay from Alexandra Hicks and superb finishing anchor leg from Noelle Niederhaus made for some impressive running collectively. Coach Keisha states, "All girls clocked hand-times under 64 seconds, which is absolutely fantastic for 12 and 13 year old youth girls. They truly have what it takes!"
Youth Girls 4x400 'B' Relay just missed qualifying for Nationals by 4 seconds posting a time of 4:37 with Lou Dietz, Kayla Denson, Kamia Rodil-Willis and Hannah Yoho. While this was the first time for some of these athletes running the 4x4 relay, it definitely won't be their last! They were unaware of how good they can be and the need to press against the clock. We look forward to some great relay legs and seeing them hit 4:32 to qualify for Youth Nationals in June at Eastern Michigan University!
